Florida man infected with British COVID-19 variant, says health department

The Florida Department of Health said on Thursday it had found evidence of the first identified case of the British COVID-19 variant in the state.

The department said the man who tested positive is in his twenties and lives in Martin County on the Treasure Coast. According to FDOH, he has no travel history.

The department is working with the CDC on the investigation and says it encourages everyone to continue with the mitigation of COVID-19.

“At present, experts expect little or no impact on the efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccine,” the department tweeted.

This is an evolving story.
