Florida man accused of being in the Capitol riot was arrested during Biden’s inauguration

A Florida man accused of taking part in the riot at the U.S. Capitol earlier this month was arrested Wednesday during the inauguration of President Joe Biden, the Department of Justice said.

Samuel Camargo, 26, was arrested after Florida law enforcement officers tried to arrest him at his home in Broward County, Florida on Tuesday, but learned he was not there. Investigators found him the next day in Washington, DC.

He faces charges of civil disorder, knowingly entering or staying in any restricted building or site without lawful authority, knowingly engaging in disorderly or disruptive conduct in any restricted building or site, and violent trespassing and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.

Camargo’s arrest and charges stem from the January 6 riot at the Capitol. Authorities said in a criminal complaint that he was holding a piece of metal from an unknown structure of the Capitol in one photo on social media, with the caption: “got memorabilia, did it himself.”

In a video, Camargo was shown “at one of the doorways to the U.S. Capitol building, using his cell phone to fight his U.S. Capitol police over opening a door to the U.S. Capitol building.” to record a video, ” reads the complaint.

He also posted a message on Facebook apologizing to family and friends for his actions at the Capitol.

According to the complaint, federal authorities were alerted on social media by a former classmate and friend on social media.

Camargo allegedly admitted he was during an interview with detectives at the Capitol. But ‘shortly after the interview began, Camargo became uncooperative and questioned your member’s loyalty to the constitution, advising the interviewing agent that he had no information to provide,’ the complaint reads.

He also told detectives that he knows charges are pending against him, but decides to attend the inauguration instead of reporting himself, it reads.

A Camargo lawyer did not immediately return a request for comment Saturday.
