Florida golfer drowns in search of lost ball

Hermilo Jazmines of Lutz, Florida, was playing golf with a friend at the East Lake Woodlands Country Club in Oldsmar, the sheriff of Pinellas County said in a news release Sunday.

“Around 07:37 Jazmines started at number three and was last looking for his ball near the green. Jazmines’ golf cart was standing on the carriageway and his putter was found on the ground near the water.” said the sheriff.

Delegates were called in after Jazmines was reported missing and the Oldsmar Fire Department helped search the wooded area and the edge of the dam, the release said.

“The diving team of the sheriff of the Pinellas province responded and located Jazmines in the water under his putter. He was pronounced dead at the scene,” the release read.

“Investigators say the evidence suggests Jazmines may have fallen into the water and drowned. Delegates spoke to friends of Jazmines who say he likes to search the course for lost golf balls,” the sheriff said.

It is said that the office of the medical examiner will undertake an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death, but that the incident does not appear suspicious at the moment.
