Five-star cornerback Jaheim Singletary joins Ohio State

DJ, play the hits.

Tell us if you’ve heard of it before, but a five-star Jacksonville recruiter chose to continue his career as a Buckeye.

Jaheim Singletary, of Robert E. Lee High School in Florida, has committed himself to the state of Ohio, he announced Saturday. His bet gives the state of Ohio its third bet in the top 15 overall and the fifth bet in the top 55 overall.

Singletary’s decision follows in the footsteps of former Trinity Christian Academy five-star cornerbacks Shaun Wade (2017) and Tyreke Johnson (2018) who each selected Columbus as their next home from Jacksonville.

Wade and Johnson’s choice to join the state of Ohio has, as it were, helped pave the way for Singletary to select the Buckeyes.

“This is Ohio State, they put a lot of DBs in the league and it’s a dream to go to a DBU school,” Singletary told Bucknuts in November. ‘They have guys from Jacksonville there like Shaun Wade, Tyreke Johnson and [Marcus] Crowley. Ever since the state of Ohio offered me, I’ve talked to them every day. ”

The 5th of November was when the Buckeyes finally came to call, and it was an important moment for the country’s overall no. 10 and angle 5.

Singletary holds offers from Clemson, Georgia and Florida – the other three schools that have been in its last four – plus LSU, Michigan, Oregon, Penn State, Texas A&M and USC.

But Kerry Coombs’ reputation for placing defensive rugby in the league, and his relationship with both Coombs and area recruiter Tony Alford, led Singletary to hope he would extend Buckeye’s offer.

It was the offer he had been waiting for so long, and when it finally came, it was a matter of time before he closed his decision.

“Ohio State is one of the schools that places the best DBs in the league,” Singletary told Bucknuts. “Marshon Lattimore, Eli Apple, Malik Hooker, many more. They can put me closer to my goal of coming to the NFL and playing ball. ”

Singletary’s recruiting took off quickly after the offer, as the 170-foot forecast of the six-foot-1, 170-pound, Crystal Ball predicted for him to eventually pick Columbus.

And now, with him in the kraal, the Buckeyes are getting another top level outside the corner as they continue to build their defense of the future with blue-chip players.
