First baby born with COVID-19 antibodies

PALM BEACH, Florida (WKOW) – In Palm Beach County, Florida, the first baby was born with antibodies to COVID-19 after her mother was vaccinated.

The baby girl had her blood drawn after she was born in late January, and the test confirmed that it had antibodies against COVID-19, WPBF reported yesterday.

According to WPBF, the mother, a health worker at the front, received a COVID-19 vaccine.

Local pediatricians have published an article on medRxiv on the finding.

“Here we report the first known case of a baby with SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies detectable in umbilical cord blood after mothers’ vaccination,” they wrote in the article.

The authors further noted that further study was needed to determine how long infants may have antibody protection against COVID-19 after birth.
