There is one truth that the media and others who have remained about Cuomo’s government did not want to hear: that his executive orders were one of the biggest reasons why so many of our parents and grandparents died of COVID in their parental home.
We lost more elderly people from COVID in nursing homes than 11/11 and Hurricane Katrina combined. That includes my parents, Mickey and Dee Newman. Why did this fact not provoke anger?
Now we finally know why, and this is what we have suspected for many months: because this administration has done everything in its power to keep the information hidden by blaming, bullying, lying and covering up.
I was personally attacked by the spokesmen of the governor, as well as my family and the other brave people who dared to go against this government. I was told that I was nothing reliable except the weather, and that I was part of a death cult that would not stop hunting Cuomo or his office. I was warned to ‘keep my back’ and ‘be careful’. He was too powerful, both revered and feared by those who covered him and worked for him.
Meanwhile, our grieving families continued to watch the mainstream media overwhelm him, never asking the questions we so desperately wanted to know: Why is he writing the executive order to bring infected patients to nursing homes, and why is he covering the total amount? number of elderly people who died, including those who died in hospital?
We never heard the answers. Instead, we saw him promote and celebrate himself, write his leadership book, and win an Emmy Award.
It was furious. Frustrating. Soul crushing. And despite all my attempts at accountability, I began to believe that we would never see the day that this governor and his government were put to task.
Until now. A 76-page report from the New York Attorney General’s office that finally gave us reason to believe that the nightmare we went through was very real.
Our feelings of hurt, dismay, anger, betrayal of this leader and his department Heath were valid. What we knew in our hearts was the truth.
In her report, James writes:
“While we cannot bring back the individuals we lost to this crisis, this report seeks to provide transparency that the public deserves and to encourage increasing action to protect our most vulnerable residents.”
This is the part that made me cry. Because we can not bring back my husband’s parents, but I believe they helped me not to give up.
I called my husband and his sister and said Mickey and Dee did not give up. They helped us keep going.
Because those we have lost are those we are fighting for.
This report is a doorway, with a gleam of light shining through. Perhaps there could be justice, and their death would not have been in vain.
I do hope that we see a full investigation into the massacre in the nursing home here in New York. These deaths could have been prevented. Maybe this is the beginning of protecting other families in the future.
But first we need the whole truth and nothing but the truth. From this governor, his health department and everyone who helped disguise it. Because we deserve it. My husband’s parents deserve it.
The Cuomo government said in an interview on one of the channels this week that it never asked him questions about the tragedy of the old age home:
‘Incompetent government kills people. More people died than needed to die in COVID. That’s the truth. ”
It turns out he’s talking about himself.
