Final ‘The Masked Dancer’: Winner Cotton Candy, sloth, tulip unmasked

Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas is the first winner of “The Masked Dancer”, which won the diamond mask trophy of the show after being unveiled as Cotton Candy.

Douglas was a winner despite facing two trained dancers in the final match. Runner-up Sloth turns out to be Maksim Chmerkovskiy “Dancing with the Stars”. And in third place was Tulip, who was brought to light as Mackenzie Ziegler (“Dance Moms”).

Douglas was unmasked after dancing on “This Is Me” by Kesha. The panelists were confused as to whether the Cotton Candy was a gymnast or an ice skater. Paula Abdul figured it was Gabby Douglas, while Ashley Tisdale named her teammate Simone Biles. Brian Austin Green thought it was Tara Lapinski, Ken Jeong named Michelle Kwan.

Among Douglas’ striking moments in the show, she was in front of her first dance, when she (dressed as Cotton Candy) was suspended high in an acrobatic ring, but then fell to the ground. “The Masked Dancer” played many miles in the track and noticed how Cotton Candy quickly jumped back and performed.

Now Douglas can reveal – ironically – that while it was not easy to dance in disguise, it may have been the elaborate, stuffed costume that protected her.

“The ring turned very fast, which I had taken so much before, but I just wanted to make everything just very light and airy,” she told Variety. ‘I did not pay much attention, and a part of my left shoulder came out of the ring, and then gravity literally just took me down. But I was so happy for Cotton Candy’s costume because it filled the fall, and I was wearing a big oil dress, she had her [large] head. So I just walked away with a bruised chin and a bruised knee, but that was fine with me. I just got up again and was like, ‘Okay, guys, let’s do this again.’

Douglas may be an athletic superstar, but she admitted that her dance skills were only ‘at 5%. Because I’m so used to doing kind of static postures and not really having character, moving, doing different genres or dancing style. So it was very, very different. ”

The panelists eventually realized that Cotton Candy was either a gymnast or an ice skater, which made Douglas more eager to cover her tracks. I did not want to do a lot of gymnastics at all, and I practiced with choreographers to say, ‘OK, how can I be a ballerina or how can I be a hip hop dancer to throw off the judges. ‘”

She was entertained by some of the early guesses, especially by Jeong: ‘I thought Ken was very hilarious, some of his guesses are very wild. Kylie Jenner, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez who was wow, does he do it just to be funny or is he actually serious? ”

Douglas gives many points to her experience. “If I could flush back and do everything again, I would,” she said. “It definitely inspired my passion to dance more.”

Second place was loudly correctly guessed by Abdul and Green, who chose Chmerkovskiy. Jeong called Channing Tatum, while Tisdale thought it was Hugh Jackman.

For third place Tulip, Tisdale realized it was Ziegler. Abdul went with Liza Koshy, Jeong chose Lucy Hale, Green named Sabrina Carpenter.

“I think one of the hardest things for me, of course, was putting my head up,” Ziegler said. “Because it was definitely bigger than my actual head, and it was difficult because I was doing tricks, my partner lifted me up and it was difficult to practice and to try to navigate the head because it was just that big.”

Ziegler said that many of her fans found out early on that it was her: ‘I’m just as excited for everyone to see me because many of my fans have guessed me. And all my comments are, ‘Are you the tulip?’ So I’m excited to see how everyone reacts when they get me right. ”

Abdul and Green come up with two real guesses in the final, while Jeong and Tisdale had one. At the end of the night, Abdul won the season with four correct guesses, while Green with three, Tisdale with two and Jeong with his one.

“The Masked Dancer” features the “Word Up” feature, in which each contestant utters a one-word clue to their identity. Douglas’ first “Word Up” was “Primetime”, the second “Word Up” was “Team Player”, the third was “Prayer” and the fourth was “Cover Girl”. Wednesday was her last ‘Word Up’ ‘Foundation’.

This season’s costumes are Zebra, Tulip, Lazy, Exotic Bird, Cotton Candy, Cricket, Disco Ball, Moth, Ice Cube and Hammerhead. Previously unveiled were Oscar de la Hoya as the Zebra, Jordin Sparks as the Exotic Bird, Vinny Guadagnino as the Hammerhead, Brian McKnight as the Cricket, Elizabeth Smart as the Moth, Bill Nye the Science Guy as the Ice Cube, and Ice-T as the Disco Ball.

The show features a cast of ten celebrities who have ‘more than 38 million albums worldwide, 20 Emmy Awards, 20 Grammy nominations, 10 World Dance titles, five New York Times bestsellers, four Olympic gold medals and three Broadway appearances. ”

‘The Masked Singer’ opened with finalists Cotton Candy, Tulip and Sloth dancing to ‘I’ll Have The Time of My Life’, with presenter Craig Robinson singing the male role.
