Final Fantasy XIV is coming to PlayStation 5

Final Fantasy XIV coming to PlayStation 5, developer Square-Enix announced Friday. An open beta begins on April 13th.

A preview preview shows how the game works in 4K resolution, and the company says it will significantly improve frame rate and faster loading times. If you are registered in the PS4 version of the game, the new, optimized version can be played for free during the beta.

Final Fantasy XIV also gets a new expansion pack called Endwalker:

Endwalker contains the climax of the Hydaelyn and Zodiark story, in which Warriors of Light will experience an even greater disaster than ever before as they travel to the far corners of Hydaelyn and even to the moon. In addition to the longbow story arc that begins A realm that is born again to its conclusion, Endwalker will be a fresh start for the beloved MMO, providing the stage for new adventures that longtime fans and new players can enjoy together.

When Final Fantasy XIV originally released in 2010, the game received so much backlash from players and critics that the original director and producer left the project, and the developer shut down its servers in 2012. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.
