Final Fantasy 14 bans more than 5,000 players from using real money in the game

Another group of Final Fantasy 14 players were banned from using real world money in exchange for goods and services in the MMORPG game, and a smaller group was also punished for trying.

A news release reveals that just over 5,000 players ended their accounts in the Open World Cup, which is responsible for the period between February 25 and March 3 this year. This was due to the violation of the rules around ‘trading in real money and other illegal activities’ that undermine the economy in the game, and drop the balance out of the pen.

A further 814 have been terminated because they are trying to participate in the above, advertise or otherwise attempt to effect a transaction involving real currency, rather than the scream used by the Final Fantasy series. Prohibition waves like these for offenders are unfortunately frequent. In 2019, more than 9,500 accounts for real money transactions were removed. In that case, a number of players were also kicked because they used bots. While the RMT offenses continue, it appears that Square Enix is at least under control.

The post contains information on how to report someone who is trying to exchange money for something. You use the command line System menu> Support counter> Contact us> Report fraud. and players are encouraged to report and then ignore anything they notice.

The next Final Fantasy 14 expansion, Endwalker, was recently launched. It arrives sometime in the fall, and we chatted with director Naoki Yoshida about ending a ten-year story of A Realm Reborn.
