FIFA is currently embroiled in one of the biggest scandals to ever hit the match after an EA employee allegedly sold prestigious Ultimate Team cards for thousands of pounds.
Unconfirmed instant messages show that an employee of the company sells Icon cards in packages of 750-1000 euros. In one WhatsApp message, three Prime Icon Moments cards are offered for 1700 euros.

Icon cards are one of the most popular in FIFA Ultimate Team. It includes legendary players, such as Brazilian Ronaldo, Pele, Zinedine Zidane and Ruud Gullit, and is almost impossible to get through the mode’s controversial outside buses.
Even rarer is Prime Icon Moments – special versions of Icon cards that indicate one game or tournament that was special to the players.
Players are known to spend thousands of pounds on packages in an attempt to get these extremely rare Icon Cards. EA has been criticized for not disclosing the exact probability if the chance of obtaining a card of a certain quality is below one percent, as is the case with Icon cards.
FIFA Ultimate Team has always had a black market for buying and selling FUT coins, which can then be used to buy icons at the auction house in the wild when available. But this is the first time we’re seeing an allegation that players could buy directly with cash cards.

With “EAGate” now trending on Twitter, FUT players say that if it’s true, the ability to buy powerful cards directly and use them in mode, the effort and money spent by legitimate fans in pursuit of an ultimate team is spent, appreciating, and balancing the game and its economy.
EA responded to the allegations, saying it had launched an investigation.
“We understand how it creates concerns about unfair balance in the game and competition,” EA said.
