FIFA 21 regains the UK spot, after beating the coveted Christmas no. 1 missed last week.
The EA soccer game increased in sales by only 8% in terms of physical copies.
That means last week’s no. 1, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, falls into second place after a 21% drop in sales week after week. Since the chart is over the Christmas period, it’s not entirely surprising to see sales drop for most games. Animal Crossing: New Horizons rises to no. 3, despite declining week-on-week sales by 20%, while Mario Kart 8: Deluxe jumps to number 4 despite an 8% drop. To round out the Top Five, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War drops from No.2 to No.5 after a 42% sales slip.
The big new version of December, CD Projekt’s Cyberpunk 2077, drops to number 8 after a 57% drop in sales. Remember, this is all purely based on physical game sales.
Other games that make up the Top Ten include Spider-Man Miles Morales for PS4 and PS5 (which ranks No. 6 after a 31% drop in sales), Just Dance 2021 (one place to number 7 despite ‘ n 28% sales figures), Super Mario 3D All-Stars (one to number 9 with sales of 25%) and Minecraft on Switch (one to ten after a decrease of 26%).
Just Dance 2021 was a real success for Ubisoft. It is now just one week away from taking over Watch Dogs Legion as the publisher’s second biggest game of the year (behind Assassin’s Creed Valhalla), and its sales after seven weeks are 35% higher than Just Dance 2020 over the same period .
Meanwhile, Mario Kart 8: Deluxe has enjoyed its biggest year to date. The Nintendo Switch game has been steadily selling better and better every year since its release, which was already in 2017.
