Fiber cuts in Brooklyn appear to be causing East Coast Verizon FiOS disruption

“There is a fiber cut in Brooklyn. We do not have an ETR yet,” Verizon Support said. on Twitterr, which indicates that users are turning to the FiOS app for more details, which have yet to be provided.

But FiOS users across the East Coast and Northeast are reporting problems accessing the Internet. Customers in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC and Boston have all seen their connectivity weaken with fiber cutting at the same time. The company could not confirm that the two incidents were related.

Zoom school classes were disrupted, as well as work from home and digital church sessions. Access to other services such as Google, Slack, Microsoft Teams and the Verizon app is also currently impossible on many FiOS connections.

“PWCS is aware of Internet connection issues with Verizon FIOS affecting students and staff,” Prince William County Public Schools said on Twitter.

“I’m a teacher and can’t get online right now because my Verizon home internet is down,” one Virginia teacher said on Twitter. “I can not even reach my students to tell why I have not started class yet. Their final exam is tomorrow.”
