Shortly after Stone was arrested in January 2019 during a controversial FBI raid on his Fort Lauderdale home, Stone and his wife Nydia moved to a nearby apartment purchased by a trust she controlled. In the case, it is alleged that financial and other fraud was intended to prevent the IRS from collecting the money that Stone and his wife owe and still owe to the federal debtor.
Stone and one of his lawyers did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment on the case.
The new lawsuit against Stone has been ‘approved and requested by the General Board of the Internal Revenue Service, a delegate of the Secretary of the United States Treasury, and is being led by the Attorney General of the United States’ to Christopher Coulson , a lawyer in the Tax Division of the Department of Justice, who signed the case.
The Department of Justice is asking a federal court to order the Stones to repay the nearly $ 2 million they owe, plus interest and any other ‘legal addition’. He also wants the court to declare that the transfer of Stone’s home to the Bertran Trust is ‘fraudulent’ and that Roger and Nydia Stone remain the true owners of the property.
In the criminal case, a jury found Stone guilty of all seven charges he faced. A judge has sentenced him to nearly three and a half years in prison.
Just before Stone was to report to prison, however, President Donald Trump stepped in with a commutation, even as Stone promised to continue his career. Just before Christmas, Stone received a full pardon from Trump.
Stone’s name also appeared repeatedly in the ongoing prosecution of the militia of the Oath Watchers due to the violation of the Capitol on 6 January. Several of the leaders of the group charged in the attack were part of a security detail for Stone on January 5 and 6. of the Capitol violation. Stone said he had no knowledge of their plans to march to the Capitol.
Stone’s finances have long been a feature of his desperate fundraising email. He describes that his net worth has been reduced by his efforts to fight the criminal charges against him. He also said that his move from a house to an apartment in 2019 was due to financial tensions that caused his accusation. He also cited threats and security issues after he was arrested and the raid on the SWAT team at his home was widely publicized.
