The gunman in the FedEx shooting was previously known to federal and local authorities – and was reported to law enforcement by a concerned family member on Friday, according to a report.
The suspect, who committed suicide in the Indiana plant on Thursday night after killing eight people, has not been publicly identified by police. But CNN reporter Ana Cabrera said he was no stranger to law enforcement.
“Authorities have been warned about the possibility of FedEx suspects in the past, according to sources,” Cabrera tweeted. “The suspect in the mass shooting in Indianapolis was known to federal and local authorities before the attack.”
Referring to three sources of law enforcement, Cabrera added that a family member had reached out to authorities to warn them about the gunman’s “potential for violence.” It is not clear when the warning was issued.
Craig McCartt, deputy chief of the Metropolitan Police Department in Indianapolis, said earlier in the day that investigators have an idea who the shooter is, but do not want to elaborate.
He said the killer died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound when police closed the door.
