La Secretary of the Department of Education (DE), Elba Aponte Santos, informs the approval and the availability of $ 1,657,969.00 million proceeds of federal funds in addition to the direct payment of the grant to students of the post-secondary institutions of the agency.
The objective of the aid is to provide emergency response to students who are alive and well and have been interrupted by the pandemic.
In addition, the DE designated anticipation that the Technical Education Division is conducting the processes for the distribution of funds to active students which, at present, have been affected by the emergence of the pandemic. About 1,475 students are eligible for federal aid.
In the case of the DE, the eligible institutions are: the Puerto Rico Institute of Technology, San Juan, Ponce, Manatí and Guayama; the Bayamón Troqueleria and Herramentaje School (ETH) and the Puerto Rico Aviation Maintenance Institute de Fajardo (PRAMI).
The Federal Department of Education (USDE) has made $ 21.2 million milestones available for the establishment of the postecundarias del país, the First Aid Fund for Higher Education (HEERF).
The Central Economic Assistance Unit of the DE is in the process of allocating funds. The Ley de ayuda, alivio y economic security against the coronavirus (CARES Act), allows students to use this economic aid to cover costs of materials, technology, food and hospice, among other hospitable guests. “We are planning to start December starting February 26, 2021 and will be a bank transfer immediately to all students with active matriculation status during the second semester of the 2020-2021 academic year,” the secretariat said.
The amount to be unpacked by each student will be approximately between $ 1100. As part of the processes, the students will be notified by writing and will complete a required documentation. For this purpose, the systems have been programmed in a manner that allows the automation of the notification system to be corrected, including the SIS system.
