Federal agents on financial investigation involved in deadly shooting in Coral Gables

KORAALGABELS, Fla. Federal agents have shot dead a person wielding a weapon in Coral Gables on Friday, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Officer Kelly Denham, a spokeswoman for the Coral Gables police station, said the shooting took place near the intersection of Mantua Avenue and Alahambra Circle.

Anthony Salisbury, special agent of ICE Homeland Security Investigations Miami, said the agents were part of a major financial investigation.

A woman who lives in the area said she first heard a “noise” and screams, and when she walked out to investigate, she heard five to six shots. Salisbury said there were ICE HSI agents who sustained non-life-threatening injuries and that law enforcement officers recovered the person’s weapon.

Inside the crime scene, there were two silver vehicles: a Chrysler minibus with bullet holes and a pickup truck. Officers placed a yellow tarpaulin to cover the body in the minibus. The driver’s side window was smashed and there was glass on the ground and on the driver’s seat.

Denham also said the Coral Gables police station handed over the crime scene to the Miami-Dade police station. The Florida law enforcement department was also part of the investigation. Coral Gables police have warned drivers to avoid the South Alhambra Circle and Blue Road area.
