FBI releases new video on Capitol riot

The FBI on Thursday released new footage of the January 6 attack on the Capitol and asked the public for help in identifying rioters who assaulted police officers during the uprising.

The videos shows attackers attacking officers with fists, clubs, unknown chemical sprays and even a device that looks like a baton or a livestock producer.

In one cut, a man can be seen in a crowd fighting law enforcement while using an apparent electroshock device. He repeatedly handed the baton-like device to officers as it emitted a loud buzz and bright flashes.

“These individuals are seen on video committing serious crimes against those who have dedicated their lives to protecting the American people,” Steven D’Antuono, head of the FBI field office in Washington, said in a video statement.

He added that the office had arrested more than 300 people accused of taking part in the riots, including more than 65 who had been charged with assaulting law enforcement officers.

“We are grateful to the members of the public who have already been a tremendous help in these investigations,” he added. “We know it can be a difficult decision to report information about family, friends or colleagues, but it’s the right thing to do and the FBI still needs your help identifying these suspects.”

The additional footage comes days after two men were arrested and charged with assaulting police officers for allegedly spraying a group of law enforcement officers with an unknown chemical irritant during the riot. According to indictment documents, Brian Sicknick, a U.S. Capitol police officer who died on Jan. 7, was among those assaulted by the two men.

Authorities have not yet released the cause of Sicknick’s death and do not claim responsibility for the two men arrested this week.
