The FBI on Tuesday released new videos that, according to investigators, show the person suspected of planting two pipe bombs the night before the riot in Capitol in January.
“These pipe bombs were viable devices that could have exploded, leading to injury or death. We need the public’s help to identify the individual responsible for placing these pipe bombs, to ensure that they themselves or no one else harm, “Steven D said. ‘Antuono, assistant director in charge of the FBI’s field office in Washington, DC.
The FBI said the bombs were planted on Jan. 5 between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. ET, outside the separate national offices of the Republican and Democratic National Committees. Both are located a few blocks from the American Capitol.
On videos released last month, the person was suspected to be the suspect walking through the neighborhood, wearing a gray hoodie, face mask and a backpack. According to the FBI, the suspect also wore distinctive shoes – Nike Air Max Speed Turf shoes with black, gray and yellow details.
The newly released videos show the suspect walking down the sidewalk a few blocks from the Capitol, then stopping to put down his backpack before walking again. Other scenes show the person sitting on a bench and walking down an alley.
Investigators said both devices appeared to be functional, made of metal pipe that was an inch in diameter, and contained homemade black powder, with a standard winding timer. They did not go down.
The discovery of the devices took dozens of police about 90 minutes away from their usual posts before rioters stormed the Capitol. Steven Sund, the former head of the U.S. Capitol Police, said he believes the bombs were planted as a diversionary tactic.
Upon release of the video, the FBI said agents were hoping someone could recognize the suspect’s gait, body language or other means. According to agents, the suspect also took ET from a vehicle parked a few blocks from the Capitol on Jan. 5 between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
The FBI is offering a $ 100,000 reward for information leading to the identification of the suspect.
