Fauci: ‘We must now assume’ that British virus strain ‘could cause more damage’

Asked by Margaret Brennan, CBS, about his earlier allegations that the tension, although contagious, apparently was not more deadly, Fauci said: “The data that came out was after they kept saying it did not look more deadly. So this is where we got the information. ”

“When the British investigators took a closer look at the mortality rate of a certain age group, and they found that it was one per thousand … and then it grew to 1.3 per thousand in a certain group,” Fauci added . “It’s a significant increase. The latest data therefore agree with what the British are saying. We want to look at the data ourselves, but we have every reason to believe it. They are a very capable group. ”

Fauci further said Americans “must now assume that what is predominant in the UK does have a certain increase in what we call virulence, namely the power of the virus to do more damage, including death.”

Fauci separately addressed another tribe that allegedly originated in South Africa, saying ‘in some cases [the strain] reduces the effectiveness of the vaccine ”, but the vaccine was generally still effective.
