Dr Anthony Fauci got back and forth a bit with a Fox News anchor on Tuesday, and this time Sandra Smith’s complaint that the ‘goal posts keep moving’ pushed back on mask use.
During an appearance on Fox News America’s Newsroom On Monday, Fauci – who now serves as chief medical adviser to President Joe Biden – shot down anchor Bill Hemmer’s attempt to interview President Donald Trump, pointing out that Hemmer’s colleague Dana Perino had just said they ” behind us must place “and move forward.
Only a day later, Fauci reappears on Fox, and this time sits down for an extensive interview with Smith and co-anchor John Roberts. The interview was mostly fairly collegial, as the two anchors focused their questions on the Biden administration’s coronavirus policy and vaccine distribution plans.
At the end of the conversation, however, it tested a bit when Smith’s recent remarks by Fauci that double masking makes “common sense” are probably more effective at protecting against viral spread than wearing a single mask.
‘So if you have a physical coating with one layer, you apply another layer, it only makes sense that it would probably be more effective. That’s why you see people doing double masks or a version of an N95, ‘Fauci said last week.
“Dr. Fauci, it looks like the goalposts keep moving,” Smith said, noting that California is experiencing additional problems as new coronavirus strains emerge.
“All of us try to do what is necessary to stay safe. We all wear our masks and hope most people do. Now we hear we have to carry two, ‘she continues before gasping:’ If I go to the grocery store, I carry two, do I carry three? Is it safer to wear eight? Where does it stop ?! ”
Fauci, meanwhile, responded that the “discussion changes, not the goalposts”, adding that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention does not officially recommend anyone to wear double masks.
“What they’re saying is, ‘Do you know what a good start would be? If everyone wears at least one mask, ‘he further explained. “I think it will be important. The CDC recommendations therefore did not change. What we are trying to do is make individuals who do not wear masks wear masks. ”
