Fauci links gun violence to public health issue

Dr Anthony Fauci, the leading disease expert in the US, linked armed violence to the country’s public health during an interview on Sunday, following a recent spate of mass shootings.

Fauci was a guest on CNN’s “State of the Union,” and host Dana Bash asked him for his opinion on gun violence, which she described in the U.S. as “another epidemic.”

“When you see people being killed, I mean, in this last month, it was just awful what happened. How can you say it’s not a public health issue? ‘

The U.S. experienced a significant decline in mass shootings in 2020. The country has already absorbed several incidents, most recently Thursday in Indianapolis in a FedEx facility where eight people were killed. President Biden referred to the shooting as an ‘epidemic and an international embarrassment’.

Biden also called gun violence a ‘public health crisis’ when he announced a series of executive actions and proposals on gun control last week. He insisted that the action did not infringe the rights of the second amendment.
