Fauci expects Johnson & Johnson vaccine decision to return Friday with ‘warning’ or ‘restriction’

Dr Anthony Fauci believes health officials can make a decision on the treatment of the Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine as early as Friday this week.

A rare clotting problem has stopped the use of the vaccine, with six patients getting a blood clot from the nearly 7 million doses administered.

“Hopefully by Friday we will be back on track somehow,” Fauci said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “I think by then we’re going to make a decision.”

Fauci stresses that the FDA wants to look at “all the data” before drafting its advice.

“Now, I do not want to come before the CDC and the FDA and the advisory committee, but what I imagine is that we will see it come back and that it will come back in some warning or restriction.”

Fauci was not clear on what a restriction or warning might look like.

Fauci went on to reiterate that this was only his hope, and that the need for more vaccines did not diminish as the United States made significant progress with the proliferation efforts.

The vaccination would be a valuable tool in the Biden administration’s pursuit of near-total vaccination. President Biden revised his original goal of 100 million doses in his first 100 days after being exceeded in half the time. He is now aiming for 200 million at the same time.

The global death toll due to the pandemic exceeded 3 million this weekend, which is a serious reminder that the virus is still spreading, even during the spread of vaccines.

However, Israel has given some hope that vaccinations are a real step towards a normal return. The country abandoned its mandate for outdoor masks on Sunday because the country had vaccinated about 80% of the adult population.

Even with overall vaccination, it is possible that any vaccination will require a shot later in the year.

Fauci believes the data will make it clear “by the end of summer” this year whether or not an amplifier is needed, as well as when it should be applied.
