SHELBY DORP, Mich. (WXYZ) – According to local police, a father and his 12-year-old daughter, both from Macomb township, died in a vehicle accident.
The fatal accident took place on Tuesday around 18:15 in the vicinity of Van Dyke and Mileweg 21. A Dodge Ram driver driven by the father and a commercial vehicle collided inside the intersection, police said. The Dodge completely engulfed in flames.
In the Dodge was a 45-year-old father and his two children, both 12 years old. One of the 12-year-olds, a girl, died with the father in the accident. The other 12-year-old child is in hospital with serious injuries.
After an initial investigation, it was found that the Dodge truck was driving north on Van Dyke and turning left towards Mile Road 21. The commercial truck was heading south on Van Dyke and was driving through the intersection at Mile Road 12 when the collision occurred.
The driver of the commercial vehicle was not injured, police said. He was questioned at the scene and released pending the outcome of the investigation.
