Light spoilers for one Cyberpunk 2077 end follow – go at your own risk!As indicated on Nintendo Smash, the endgame quest Along the Watchtower (check out our Cyberpunk 2077 guide on how to achieve this) begins with V waking up on top of the Badlands Dam and seeing a bird sitting on the open car window.
That bird looks and sounds like a swallow’s swallow – in the world of the Witcher, ‘Swallow’ is the Elven English translation of ‘Zireael’, from which Ciri derives its name (and is the name of the silver sword that Geralt gave her. ) in The Witcher 3).
It may seem coincidental, but Cyberpunk 2077 makes it very clear that there are no birds in Night City. A shard (the name of the game for text logbooks) titled “Avian Extermination Act” makes clear why:
“In view of increasingly frequent and fatal outbreaks of zoonotic diseases, the city council has decided that the most effective method of reducing the risk of infection among residents is to eradicate bird life within 18 kilometers of city limits.”
This makes the appearance of a live bird in the game particularly striking, and one with such a close connection to Ciri feels to some fans as a deliberate choice. There’s no sign of CD Project Red yet if this is really the case – it’s a big theory of fans at this point.
Why players specifically searched for Ciri in Night City – this comes down to a set of rules she talks about in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Ciri describes a world in which she hid to escape the title Hunt and said: ‘People had metal in their heads, waged war from a distance and used things similar to megascopes. And there were no horses, everyone had their own flying ships instead. “
Many people think she arrived in Night City. Adam Badowski, director of Cyberpunk 2077, said earlier that he is against the idea of crossing the world, although many people in the team hope to include Ciri in the game – it may well be that this reference was the compromise .
Even if it’s completely coincidental, Ciri does make an appearance in the game again – albeit in the form of the front page star in a retro magazine found in the Cyberpunk preview program for Corpo players.Many have wondered if Ciri will be the leader in the Witcher game due to the development after Cyberpunk’s release. However, it may take a while before we realize it, as Cyberpunk itself still has a long way to go.
After the poor state of the game on consoles during launch, CD Project has committed to a number of updates to fix the game by February, after which it will receive free DLC and paid extensions and finally a multiplayer mode. Since you can not buy the game digitally on PlayStation at the moment, it will probably be a long way until we even get the chance to personally venture CD project Ciri again.
