Family sues JSO after 22-year-old boy was killed by officer

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. The family of a 22-year-old man who was shot dead by a police officer is suing the sheriff in Jacksonville.

Last year, the state attorney reviewed the shooting death of Jamee Johnson and justified the shooting.

However, Johnson’s family lawyer disagreed and sued Sheriff Mike Williams and officer Josue Garriga, the officer who pulled the trigger.

Although it may not bring Johnson back, the family says it could bring them one step closer to justice.

This bodycam video shows the moments before, during and after Johnson was shot four times by Garriga.

If the court agrees, the city will have to grant ‘economic losses and punitive damages of at least $ 100,000’ under seven things.

“The biggest contradiction out of this whole thing, the biggest lie is the story of Josue Garriga,” said Johnson’s family lawyer, Harry Daniels. “His affidavit, to the medical examiner’s report, to the video, to the eyewitness.”

Daniels claims Johnson was not a threat and that Garriga’s testimony would have positioned him to be shot from left to left.

Daniels said Jamee left the vehicle with his hands up above his head and the autopsy report shows that bullets hit him ‘left-to-right’, which contradicts Garriga’s testimony.

Johnson’s father says he wants justice.

‘He did some bad things that he should not have had in the car, he should have tried to get away, but he said at the beginning that he was afraid of the police and eventually stopped and gave up, Harvey Johnson said.

Now the Johnson family will wait to see if the federal court agrees or disagrees with their lawsuit.

The city of Jacksonville said it “will not comment on pending litigation,” which is standard for anyone involved in this civil lawsuit.
