Fallout’s biggest mod ever appeared after seven years of development, and immediately dropped the popular mod site • Eurogamer.net

The much anticipated Fallout New Vegas mod The Frontier came out yesterday – and immediately brought down the popular mod website Nexus.

Even now, hours after its launch, The Frontier’s NexusMods page was broken.

The Frontier, which has been running for seven years, is the biggest mod ever for a Fallout game. The release trailer is below:

You fight in the frozen and snowy waste of Portland Oregon under the banner of the Republic of New California, Caesars Legion or the Crusaders of Steel. The Frontier is described as a new game-size mod, and features steerable vehicles (something the Bethesda games do not), voice acting, new characters, and lots of quests.

But the launch did not go smoothly. NexusMods was beaten offline for much of yesterday, and although it’s online again now, The Frontier’s NexusMods page is empty.

The initial plan was to release The Frontier on Steam at the same time, but this launch has been delayed until next week. Some of those who managed to get the mod up and running reported technical issues, so it might still be wise to wait for the Steam release.

Despite these gum problems, it’s clear that there’s a huge interest in a traditional single-player Fallout experience at a time when Bethesda’s focus is on the multiplayer Fallout 76. people working out what the next, official new Fallout game will be.
