After many months of delays, the first issue of God of War: Fallen God is finally available, and it has the potential to shake up the franchise in a big way. While number 1 focuses mainly on Kratos’ inner turmoil, a small detail suggests that this series of the Egyptian gods officially God of war universe.

Written by Chris Roberson, God of War: Fallen God is a new series from Dark Horse Comics that is believed to bridge the gap between God of War III and 2018s God of war on PS4. Since the latest installment brought Kratos from the realm of the Greek gods into the world of Norwegian mythology, fans have been left to speculate about how it came about, but the setting is not the only thing that has changed in the new game . God of War: Fallen God # 1 open to the events of God of War III, with Kratos trying to get rid of the Blades of Chaos – the weapons he used during the first three games. At this point, the blades only serve as a cursed reminder of Kratos’ treaty with Ares, so it’s natural that he wants to abandon it. No matter how far he drives, the blades reappear in front of Kratos when he slumbers, preventing him from really leaving his past behind. Eventually, Kratos’ desperate attempts to overpower his demons bring him to the desert land of Egypt. All the people there seem to fear him, except for one old man who tells Kratos “The destination is before you in the land of the Pharaohs.” The man also addresses Kratos directly as the Ghost of Sparta, suggesting that the stories of his brutality spread far beyond what he initially thought.

True to his character, Kratos disregards the old man’s prophecy and he continues, but if the matter has taught us anything, it is that fate will find Kratos, no matter how far he walks. It now appears that fate includes the Egyptian gods. Interestingly, 2018s God of war was almost in Egypt. While the developers of course preferred Norway, there is an Easter egg in the game where Kratos and Atreus encounter runes that refer to the mythologies of other ancient cultures, Egypt being one of them. Taking into account both the Greek and Norwegian gods already exist in the God of war franchise, it goes without saying that the Egyptian gods would too, and God forbid can finally represent them in the flesh.

It is unclear how big a role the Egyptian gods will play in the country God forbid series, if any. However, the old man’s cryptic message implies that Kratos will spend more time in the pharaohs before traveling to Norway. What exactly he was going to do with that time has yet to be seen.
