‘Falcon and Winter Soldier’ presents Emmys as drama series – Season 2?

In a surprising move, the Disney + series will be presented as a drama at this year’s Emmys, avoiding a contest with “WandaVision” in the overcrowded limited series category.

‘The Falcon and the Winter Solider’ will be presented at the Emmy Awards as a drama series, indicating the shift from the expected placement in the restricted series categories.

In an exclusive interview with IndieWire, Marvel Studios, VP of Production and Development, and executive producer of “Falcon and Winter Soldier”, Nate Moore, said that they were planning to run the series as a drama fairly early on.

‘[The decision] as the series was launched, but it was something we thought about even when we made it – not because we think, ‘Oh my God, it’s so wonderful’, but because it’s a little more dramatic feel like some of our typical stuff, ”Moore said. ‘Since it’s kind of our first foray into television, even if it’s Disney +, we thought [the category placement] was appropriate for what the program is trying to tackle. ”

While Moore said Marvel “always wants the opportunity” for more seasons, he did not confirm that “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” Season 2 is just moving forward. “We’ve definitely come up with ideas, because we always like to think about where things can go, but we honestly also just want to try to finish the show and make sure it’s in a timely manner,” he said. “Hopefully by the end of this season you will see the potential we can see in a subsequent season.”

Meanwhile, Marvel’s other eligible TV series will be on Disney + – the nine-episode ‘WandaVision’, as expected in the Limited or Anthology Series categories.

‘I think’ WandaVision ‘is a show you can only do once. She can not go back to that reality, ” Moore said, talking about what separates the two Marvel series. ‘It’s such a complete arc of what that character can do and what that story wants to do, while’ Falcon and Winter Soldier ‘is actually about the legacy of what a superhero is, through the lens of Captain America and his shield, but finally through the lens of all these different characters. And this is a story I think you can visit in the following seasons, because it’s an evergreen story. This is a conversation. ‘

The Emmys race for 2021 for the best limited series is already very busy. ‘The Queen’s Gambit’, ‘The Undoing’, ‘Small Ax’, ‘I May You Destroy’, ‘Fargo’, ‘The Good Lord Bird’ and ‘Your Honor’ are eligible – and these are only eligible programs which will be released in 2020. Well-known limited series such as ‘Mare of Easttown’, ‘It’s a Sin’, ‘The Girlfriend Experience’ and Marvel’s own ‘WandaVision’ join this year. The expected limited series like Barry Jenkins’s “The Underground Railroad” and Ryan Murphy’s “Halston,” which are expected to hit the fitness window, are yet to come.

Meanwhile, the drama series competition is wide open. Only three of last year’s nominees remain eligible in 2021, giving five slots to fill and fewer programs to fill. (The pandemic wreaked havoc on production schedules.)

Moore said they have not decided on specific category placements for actors and other talent, such as whether Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan will both star or split into main and supporting races.

“We have not had those deep conversations yet,” he said. “I know Marvel has been around for a while, but we’re still learning because we’re always trying new things. So yes, we do not really have a strategy so far. ”

From the beginning, ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ was often described as a miniseries, although Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, did say in February that the studio was looking at specific shows to carry multiple seasons.

“The fun of the MCU is, of course, all we can do between series, between movies,” Feige said during the Television Critics Association’s Winter Press tour. ‘So it will always vary depending on the story. Sometimes they go to a season 2, sometimes it goes to a feature and then again to a series. We announced that ‘me. Marvel, after her debut on Disney Plus, goes to the second movie “Captain Marvel”. But sometimes – it has yet to be announced, but we’re thinking of planning second seasons for some of the upcoming series. ”

Asked if any upcoming Marvel series are on a similar track to support multiple seasons, such as ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’, Moore pointed to ‘Loki’ starring Tom Hiddleston.

“The one that comes to mind – and it’s probably not a secret – I think there is a lot of storytelling in ‘Loki’ that is really respectful and smart and cool, but also lends itself to several seasons in a way where it does not a one-off, ”Moore said. ‘Tom Hiddleston, I think, is doing some of his best work on the program. This is really great. I think of all the amazing things he did, but this show is going to show such different sides and really the scope of his series. I think the show is going to surprise a lot of people. ”

‘Loki’ will premiere at Disney + on June 11th. The finale of the season of ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ begins on Friday 23 April. The vote for the Emmies in 2021 will be held from June 17 to 28, 2021.
