A viral message on social media claims that the Supreme Court in Delhi has ordered that the protesters detained by the police in Delhi should be released during the ongoing peasant movement. Delhi police have arrested and detained several people in connection with the January 26 violence during the farmers’ tractor marches.
Several Facebook users shared a message in Hindi that translated into: ‘The High Court in Delhi has ordered that all farmer friends held by the police in Delhi should be released. Greet the unity of farmers. Long live the annadata. ”

India Today Anti Fake News War Room (AFWA) found that at the time of submission of this report, no such order of the Supreme Court in Delhi existed. Delhi police also confirmed the same.

What AFWA found
An order from Delhi HC on the release of all protesters held during the ongoing peasant agitation would surely have made news. However, we could not find any credible news report about it.
India Today has reached out to Delhi police to inquire about the matter. DC Police Spokesman Chinmay Biswal and DCP (Crime) confirmed to us that no such order of the Supreme Court exists. “This is fake news,” the official added, urging India Today to share the viral post with their IT cell.
On the contrary, we received news reports that the Supreme Court in Delhi on February 2 rejected a petition to release people who were detained “illegally” in connection with the January 26 violence in areas in and around Singhu , Tikri, and Ghazipur borders of the capital. The Supreme Court “also ordered the investigating agency to complete the investigation into the FIRs, which were already as early as possible.”
The initiator of the case was Harman Preet Singh. India Today released Ashima Mandla, who represented Harman Preet. She confirmed to us that her petition is not being released by people arrested or detained by Delhi police in connection with the Republic Day incident.
According to media reports, 122 people have been arrested by Delhi police and 44 FIRs have so far been registered on the January 26 tractor march violence. “The HK of Delhi rejected the petition as the petitioner knows nothing about the nature of the allegations in the FIRs,” Mandla said. She also confirmed that the Supreme Court in Delhi has not yet given any order to release the protesters.
It is therefore confirmed that the viral post alleging that the Supreme Court in Delhi ordered the police in Delhi to release all protesters detained during the ongoing peasant agitation.
