As the prices of petrol and diesel become a record high in India, an image of long queues of stranded cars is being spread on social media with the claim that people in Germany were protesting against fuel price increases by abandoning their vehicles in the middle of the road.
Various Facebook users shared the picture and suggested that India a similar protest against the Narendra Modi government. The Hindi text on the picture translates into: ‘In Germany, people abandoned their cars in the middle of the road to protest the fuel price increase. After 10 German cars stopped on the road, the German government lowered fuel prices. ”

In this original photo, Chinese characters are visible on roadside signs. The same group of people standing in the same posture and wearing the viral image can also be found in the original photo.

The same image was used by “The Telegraph”On 1 October 2012 in an article about the traffic jam. The article says that the government granted free road travel during the holidays in China.
This massive jam has also been reported by others international news sites.
Germany saw protests against rising fuel prices in the past. As per reports, traffic was halted in 2000 in some German cities in protest of rising fuel prices.
But the viral image is not related to any protests in Germany. It had a major traffic jam in 2012 in the city of Shenzhen in Guangdong province in China. AFP Fact check had earlier made a similar claim.
