A video repeating incorrect information about the World Economic Forum (WEF) has been widely shared on Facebook.
The three-minute clip, which currently has 862 likes and 1,100 shares, is titled, “Let’s Talk About the Declared Goals of the World Economic Forum for 2030”, titled: “How We Can Stop Them All of us steal “(here).
It contains a man who says, ‘Let’s talk now about their stated purpose,’ by 2030 you will own nothing and be happy ‘. So the question is: how do we get to that point? How can they own us from private property to nothing? ‘
The WEF does not have a ‘stated goal’ of removing everyone’s private property by 2030. As addressed in previous Reuters fact contracts, these claims are likely to come from a 2016 WEF social media video containing eight predictions about the world in 2030, including: ‘You will not own anything. And you will be happy. What you want, you will rent, and it will be delivered by drone. ‘(here)
The Danish politician Ida Auken, who wrote the prediction here (here), said that it was not a “utopia or a dream of the future”, but a “scenario that shows where we can be headed – for better or for worse. “
In a written update, she explains that the piece aims to start a “discussion on some of the pros and cons of current technological development. If we’re dealing with the future, it’s not enough to deal with reports “We have to start discussions in many new ways. That is the purpose of this piece.”
In the past, false allegations about the WEF have been combined with conspiracy theories about the ‘Agenda 30’ framework of the United Nations (here and here), which is a set of sustainable development goals set at the 2015 United Nations General Assembly (sdgs. un.org/2030agenda). It is freely available on government websites and sets out goals, such as ending poverty, which includes the goal of making property ownership available to all:
“By 2030, you must ensure that all men and women, especially the poor and the vulnerable, have equal rights to economic resources, as well as access to basic services, ownership and control of land and other forms of property, heritage, natural resources, appropriate new technologies and financial services, including microfinance. ”(Scroll to goal 1.4)
VERDICT
Untrue. The World Economic Forum has no stated goal of ‘doing nothing and being happy’ by 2030. The Agenda 2030 framework aims to ensure that all people have access to ownership and control of land and other forms of property.
