Although Hyderabad is popular for its diverse food culture, the traditional ‘Naan ki Roti’ remains a personal favorite of locals in the old city. Now, a disturbing video of a man spitting on rotis before putting them in a tandoor spreads on social media with the allegation that the incident was recorded at Red Rose Palace in Nampally in Hyderabad.
The caption in Hindi and the video translate into: “The person who makes Naan ki Roti at Red Rose in Nampally spits on every roti.”
India Today Anti Fake News War Room (AFWA) found that although the video is true, the incident took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut and not Hyderabad. The man seen in the video was also identified and arrested by Meerut police.

AFWA investigation
With appropriate keywords, we found several news reports confirming that the video came from Meerut and that the man was caught by the police.
According to a ‘Hindustan Times’ report, which contains a screen from the same video, the incident took place in Aroma Gardens in Meerut and the man in the video was identified as Sohail.
According to a report by ‘India India’ on February 22, Hindu Jagran Manch activists outside the LLRM police station in Meerut protested against the man as soon as the video went viral.
The man was subsequently arrested by Meerut police and an FIR was registered against him, the report states. Sohail was cooking at a wedding when the incident was recorded. Meerut police also shared a post on his official Twitter manual confirming the arrest.

It is therefore clear that the video that was distributed came from Meerut and not from Hyderabad, and that the man who was spit on rotis was arrested by the police.
