The high-voltage elections in West Bengal are also being staged in the theater for social media, with supporters from various political parties going to investigate their rivals. The state has three more phases to go, and elections here are marked by sporadic incidents of violence.
To this end, a short clip of two people assaulting a policeman inside a house went viral with the allegation: ‘Watch Rinku Verma, BJP leader, assault a policeman on duty. And their leaders are talking about building a Sonar Bangla. ”
Hierin 1 minute-6 seconds video, the men are seen repeatedly abusing and slapping the police while another policeman tries to stop them.
India Today Anti Fake News War Room (AFWA) has found that the video has nothing to do with Bengal, and the incident comes from the Uttam Nagar area in Delhi.

AFWA investigation
As we watched the video up close, the emblem that was on the policeman’s arm was the first thing we hit. About five seconds after the video we could see the emblem properly and found that it was not from the West Bengal police.
For about 20 seconds we could see the letters “D” and “P” next to the policeman’s shoulder. This convinced us that the man was connected to the Delhi police.
If we take note of this, we did a keyword search and found a similar video posted by ‘The Times Of India’.
The caption of the video, which was posted on April 15, says: ‘A video of a policeman in Delhi being assaulted by some people in a house has gone viral on social media. The police are repeatedly slapped and abused. Delhi police have launched an investigation into the incident. showing how a conscripted policeman was assaulted on April 1 in a gym owner in the Uttam Nagar area of Delhi. ”
For further clarity, we conducted a keyword search that led us to several media reports about the incident.
According to these reports, the policeman who was assaulted was identified as Sushil. He is currently being posted to the Baba Haridas Nagar Police Station. Previously, he was the Personal Security Officer (PSO) for a person named Sanjay Gupta, a real estate agent by profession.
Since Gupta registered two cases of extortion in 2016 and 2018, Delhi Police gave him PSOs.
On April 1, Sushil had an argument with one of Gupta’s family members named Ashwani. After this, Gupta’s younger brother Rinku, a gym owner, and his accomplice Kaku beat the policeman.
Police registered a case against three people, including Rinku, and withdrew PSOs provided to Gupta.
Therefore, it is clear that the viral video is from Delhi and has no connection with Bengal or any BJP leader of the state.
