Fact check: Various misleading suggestions made in the documentary about the COVID-19 pandemic

An hour-long documentary shared on social media provides numerous suggestions on the pandemic, global current affairs, and the potential for a new world order. In this article, some major topics are discussed. Others fall outside the scope of this check.

Reuters fact check. REUTERS

The video was created by happen.network (twitter.com/happen_network), an organization that describes itself as a “forward-thinking digital media and social platform”, and one post with the video has been shared more than 3,500 times (here). Called The New Normal, it contains news, amateur material, shots from news sites and graphics, all combined with a voice-over. It then raises the possibility that the COVID-19 pandemic was’ planned by a group of technical elites dictating governments worldwide ‘and that life after COVID-19 could see a world with’ harsh tyrannical rules imposed by a centralized totalitarian state is controlled ”.

Bill Gates

The footage draws attention to Event 201, a pandemic simulation held in October 2019 – months before the outbreak of COVID-19. It was a table meeting held by the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Safety, in conjunction with the World Economic Forum and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

There is a suggestion in the documentary that Gates and others had prior knowledge of the COVID-19 pandemic as a result of the agreement with Event 201, which mimicked the outbreak of a new zoonotic coronavirus.

Johns Hopkins has since stressed that Event 201 was organized due to a “growing number of epidemic events” (here). It was based on a “fictional coronavirus pandemic” and was designed to model preparations and response (here).

Animal trials

An extensive video from a previously disturbing video shows doctors suggesting that animal trials were skipped before they manufactured the vaccine (here). It is not true.

In September 2020, Pfizer and BioNTech released information on the effects of their mRNA vaccine in mice and non-human primates (here). Moderna has also released similar information (here, here).

Oxford University has confirmed that the vaccine has undergone animal testing in the UK, US and Australia (here).

More information regarding this unmasked video can be read in the Reuters check (here).

5G claims

To dispel the previously disproven claim that the pandemic was planned in advance, the documentary goes on to indicate that connections have been set up to make the 5G networks work smoothly.

COVID-19 and 5G are not related, and Reuters has actually checked similar claims made previously (here, here, here).

The first known outbreak of COVID-19 was returned to Wuhan, China, after Chinese authorities reported pneumonia of unknown cause to the World Health Organization (WHO) on 31 December 2019 (here). On January 7, 2020, Chinese authorities identified SARS-CoV-2 as the virus that causes COVID-19 (here). It is a virus that spreads person-to-person through respiratory droplets (here).

5G, on the other hand, is a cellular technology that uses radio waves – the form of radiation with the lowest energy in the electromagnetic spectrum. It is not linked to COVID-19. The WHO says no research has linked exposure to wireless technology with negative health consequences (here).

Reuters previously unleashed a post claiming that a local exclusion in Leicester, UK, was linked to the implementation of 5G. The closure was introduced in July 2020, while Leicester has had 5G (here) 5G since November 2019. There are also many sites affected by COVID-19 that do not have 5G (here).

The Great Reset

The theme that connects many of the earlier topics in the documentary is the proposal that world leaders and the elite of society work together to create a world with ‘hard tyrannical rules governed by a centralized totalitarian state’.

This suggests that it will be established through The Great Reset, a sustainability plan proposed by the World Economic Forum (WEF). The documentary then refers to a social media grip of the WEF that makes eight predictions about the world in 2030. The footage specifically emphasizes three points: that people stop owning anything; everything will be hired and delivered by drone, and Western values will be moved to breaking point.

However, this is not what The Great Reset suggests, nor does it have anything to do with the social media cut.

The World Economic Forum in June 2020 put the idea of a ‘major reset’ on capitalism after noting that the pandemic is increasing inequality (here). It encourages three components, including urging governments to improve fiscal policy, implement overdue reforms (such as on wealth taxes) and urge efforts to boost the health sector in 2020 to repeat in other sectors and bring about an industrial revolution.

The social media track is meanwhile from 2016 (here) and has nothing to do with The Great Reset. This is a video that was formulated after members of the WEF’s Global Future Councils in 2030 made various predictions about the world – whether good or bad (here). Danish politician Ida Auken, who wrote about the prediction that people (here) would no longer own anything, added a letter of authorship to her piece to emphasize that it was not her vision on utopia.

“Some people have read this blog as my utopia or dream of the future,” she wrote. “It’s not. It’s a scenario that shows where we can go – for better or for worse. I wrote this piece to start a discussion on the pros and cons of current technological developments. If we “With the future, it is not enough to work with reports. We have to start discussions in many new ways. That is the purpose of this piece.”

VERDICT

Misleading. The video contains various references suggesting that the COVID-19 pandemic is intended to continue a new world order proposed by the elite of society. There is no evidence that this is true.
