Fact check: This photo of Kejriwal without mask is not related to the pandemic

Truth behind the image

Using reverse image search, we found that several news sites had this photo in November 2019, when the pandemic had not even started.

According to the photo caption in India November 1 report“Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia distribute pollution masks among schoolchildren at a Delhi school.” The image is attributed to PTI.

A similar picture was also published by “Hindustan Times” on November 2, 2019, the caption reads: “Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi and Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia, saw how they help a student while wearing a mask, at Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya, Civil Lines, in New Delhi” . The headline of the report says: “Kejriwal distributes masks to school children, asks them to write to Punjab, Haryana CM regarding smog”.

The video of the event was uploaded to YouTube on November 1, 2019 by the news agency ANI with the title: “Delhi CM Kejriwal distributes masks to school children.”

According to all these news reports, on November 1, Kejriwal distributed masks to schoolchildren in Delhi to rising pollution levels in the capital. When he addressed the event, he also hit the Haryana government for the “failure to curb stubble burning”, which he said was the main cause of pollution in Delhi.
