In the videos on social media, it is alleged that the speaker of the house, Nancy Pelosi, was arrested by American Marshals because she was arrested. The photos show Pelosi walking through the Capitol in Washington on the day the indictment against US President Donald Trump was signed on January 13, 2021. Pelosi has not yet been arrested and attended a conference two days later.
A video with thousands of shares (here) was tagged as part of Facebook’s efforts to combat misinformation online. Another video on YouTube was viewed more than 15,000 times in three days (here).
The video features a voice moving over panning over an interrupted video clip titled “Where Are American Marshals Nancy Pelosi Taking?” followed by another screenshot titled, “Pelosi in Custody of US Marshalls (Sic).”
The same women around Pelosi in these allegations can be seen on Reuters photos of the Capitol on January 13 stating that Pelosi was going to the House of Representatives as the Democrats would discuss an article of accusation against President Donald Trump (here, here).
The videos allege that the photos show Pelosi being arrested and escorted out of the Capitol after the indictment.
This was not the case, however, as the speaker was filmed and filmed two days later, on January 15, at her weekly news conference in the American Capitol. Reuters photos of this appearance can be seen here, and C-SPAN footage of the conference can be seen here.
There have been no credible reports of Pelosi’s arrest as the country’s capital prepares for Joe Biden to swear in as the 46th President of the United States on January 20, 2021.
VERDICT
Untrue. House President Nancy Pelosi was not arrested by the US Marshals on January 13, 2021 after Donald Trump’s second indictment.
