Social media users share posts online with a photo of a child, claiming it shows Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates. This statement is false.
Examples can be seen here and here. One description of one report reads: “Bill Gates circa 1963. That explains a lot.”
A reverse Google Images search revealed that the photo was posted on its Facebook page on May 1, 2019 by the Museum of the History of Photography in Lviv, Ukraine.
The Google translated description reads: “May 1, 1968. Lviv. Photographer Pavlyuk Zh.I. Especially for those interested in this photo, we are adding two more. Enjoy. This photo has nothing to do with the celebrities. All rights to these photos are reserved. ”
Several blogs here and here also discuss the image and attribute it to the photo museum.
Photos of Gates as a child can be seen here and here. Gates appears to have blonde hair, while the child in the photo has darker hair.
