Fact Check- No evidence Donald Trump said he ‘plays very little golf’

Social media reports attributing a quote about playing “very little golf” to former US President Donald Trump are false. Reuters found no evidence that Trump ever said that.

Examples can be seen here and here.

The quote reads: “Do not take it personally. When you were deceived, they were also deceived. The truth is that I play very little golf. I’m a bit busy running the world. Keep me regrettable with me, you will like the end. I guarantee it. ”

The photo that regularly accompanies the quote is visible here on Getty Images, taken on June 8, 2015 at the Turnberry Golf Club in Scotland.

Reuters could not find a record of Trump saying this quote. A Google search here did not yield any credible reports about Trump.

A search in Factba.se, a source filled with quotes, tweets and comments by Trump (here), returned no results.

The quote does not exist on Trump’s now-removed and archived Twitter account factba.se/biden/topic/twitter or in ProPublica’s “Politwoops” archive, which follows deleted tweets from public officials here.

Trump made a similar remark on August 8, 2016 in a speech in Ashburn, Virginia, which can be heard here at 25:50. In the video, he says, “I’m going to work for you, I’m not going to have time to go play golf.”

Trump has often criticized former President Barack Obama for playing golf, as reported here.

An analysis by The Washington Post here estimates that Trump probably played 261 rounds of golf over four years.

A Trump representative did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.

VERDICT
