Fact Check-False QAnon claims Hilary Clinton is being taken to Guantanamo Bay

Social media users shared articles and reports claiming Hillary Clinton was arrested and flown to Guantanamo Bay detention camp where she will stand against a military tribunal. These allegations are untrue. Clinton was not arrested and appeared on camera during International Women’s Day events after the day of her alleged arrest and relocation to Guantánamo.

“Clinton Sent to GITMO, Awaiting Military Tribunal”, says the title of the March 7, 2021 article (here, here) shared on social media (here, here).

The article alleges that Clinton was arrested and on the morning of March 5, she was flown to Guantanamo Bay, where she is awaiting a military tribunal in a private cell. The article alleges that former President Donald Trump orchestrated it with the military.

The allegations of Clinton’s arrest are related to the widespread QAnon conspiracy whose followers believe Trump secretly includes a cabal of child sex predators that includes prominent Democrats, Hollywood elites and “deep state” allies, including Clinton ( here). “Q”, the secret leader of the group, falsely predicted Clinton’s arrest in the past (here).

Fans also falsely believed that Trump was still in power in secret and would be sworn in for a second term on March 4 (here, here).

After Trump lost the election to President Joe Biden, he is no longer president and therefore has no power over the military: Reuters has denied the allegation that Trump is still in power and has power over the military here and there .

The articles shared on social media appear to be a ‘follow-up’ to a previous article, which Reuters rejected, claiming that Clinton was arrested by Navy SEALs on March 2. The navy confirmed to Reuters that this was definitely not true. On March 9, Nick Merrill, a Hillary Clinton spokesman, also told Reuters that Clinton had not been arrested (here).

Clinton can be seen speaking here and there during a Washington Post International Women’s Day gathering on March 8, three days after the posts claimed she was taken to Guantanamo Bay. Her presence during the conversation and the background seen in the videos show that she is not in a cell in the detention camp.

Clinton also attended a virtual V&A on March 8 for International Women’s Day with house speaker Nancy Pelosi and Chrissy Teigen, presented by Amanda Gorman, the first American national poet Laureate. Photos of Clinton during the event can be seen here and here.

Clinton’s social media accounts have been active since March 2 (the date of her alleged arrest) and March 5, as seen, with new posts twitter.com/HillaryClinton/ , here, here.

VERDICT

Untrue. Hilary Clinton was not arrested, these allegations stem from the debilitating conspiracy theory QAnon.
