If you follow a service like DownDetector, you know that there are interruptions almost every day, but you rarely see Facebook take a dive. However, the main site also presents an error message, and it is unclear how long it may take before things recover.
The outage is also important, but just a few weeks after their last outage, the sites for Instagram and WhatsApp are inaccessible. The Facebook Gaming platform used to have its own problems, but tweeted that the current issues “are not related.”
Update (17:53 ET): Whatever happened, (it also removed Facebook’s internal sites, according to a tweet of Jane Manchun Wong) is resolving itself. Based on reports and what individual Engadget authors see, some people can easily access the sites and programs again, but others still have varying problems.
Update (19:30 ET): In a tweet, Facebook said that a “configuration change” had cut off some of its services, but that everything should now be online again.
And we’re back! Earlier today, a configuration change caused some Facebook services to be unavailable. Since then, we have quickly investigated and resolved the issue.
