Facebook post claims that local hospitals are out of ICU beds

(KWQC) – A Facebook post being circulated claims that UnityPoint and Genesis Hospitals are both out of ICU beds.

TV6 reached local hospitals to check and discovered that this was not true.

In a statement, UnityPoint Health – Trinity said they have ICU beds available to care for COVID-19 and other patients.

“Currently, UnityPoint Health – Trinity has ICU beds available for the care of COVID-19 patients and others,” officials told TV6. “We are experiencing an increase in total ICU admission since the end of March and will continue to monitor the situation in accordance with our training plans, should the need arise. We want to ask the community to continue mitigation strategies such as social distance, wearing a mask and getting the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as it is available. ‘

Genesis also still has ICU beds available and says the numbers are much lower than those in November.

“Genesis medical centers have recently seen an increase in hospitalizations related to COVID-19,” officials told TV6. “The COVID-related census for inpatients has doubled in the past month. However, the numbers are still much lower than the wave experienced in November. We are challenged from time to time, as are all hospitals in the region, with availability of ICU beds. Genesis encourages everyone to be vaccinated. It is everyone’s turn to be vaccinated to protect their own health and the health of those with whom they are in contact. Our best message is to be vaccinated, wear a mask, avoid large indoor gatherings and wash your hands. ‘
