According to people with direct knowledge of the device, Facebook is building a smartwatch that it hopes to start selling next year. According to the watch, carriers can send messages using Facebook services and also provide health and fitness features.
The planned sneak peek of Facebook would further push the company in the direction of CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s goal of controlling the next computer platforms to smartphones. Over the past few years, the social network has expanded to sell hardware to consumers, with the introduction of Oculus Virtual Reality Headsets and its Portal range of home video calling devices. But it has not yet entered the market for smartwatches popular with companies such as Apple, Huawei and Fitbit, which are now owned by Google.
