Facebook and Instagram were off Thursday afternoon. The outage appears to be starting around 5:30 PM ET, and thousands of people have reported outages on DownDetector. The break is the second in less than a month of the social media giant; an interruption on March 19 took his sites a few hours offline. Facebook sent back an error message ‘Sorry something went wrong’:

The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The edge about the cause of the interruption; it is unclear at this time when the service will be fully restored. In addition to WhatsApp and Messenger, it appears that the interruption also affected Facebook’s internal sites, first noted in a tweet of developedr Jane Wong. Even Facebook’s disruption panel experienced problems.
