Last November, Nintendo’s F-zero series turned 30 years old. While there are no signs it could return anytime soon, Sega’s Toshihiro Nagoshi is one of the guys who would love to help.

Nagoshi is known for producing the Yakuza series these days, but in 2003 he worked on the best entry in the F-Zero series – F-Zero GX for the Nintendo GameCube from Sega’s Amusement Vision.

Nagoshi spoke to Red Bull France at the end of last year and said he would be open for the series again if given the opportunity. As unlikely as it may be, if it did, it would have to be a “challenging” game – like Mario Kart is already the “fun and accessible” racer in Nintendo’s library.

‘Mmm … If I set aside the chance of that happening, I have to admit that I love F-Zero GX a lot. If the opportunity were to present itself, I would not care. And in that case, I want to make it a challenging game. I believe that if Nintendo just wants a “fun and accessible” racing game, they already have Mario Kart for the purpose. “

The last F-Zero game released was the 2004 only Game Boy Advance title in Japan, F-Zero climax. Since then, the series has resurfaced in games such as Nintendo Land and Mario Kart 8 as DLC. Captain Falcon is still one of the main fighters in the Super Smash Bros. grid too.
