Ezra Furman comes out: ‘I’m a trans woman and a mother. It’s possible ‘

Ezra Furman came out as a transgender woman on Wednesday and has been a mother for more than two years.

“About being a woman: for my own reasons, I was hesitant to use these words, especially the ‘woman’ word,” she wrote on Instagram. ‘I have often described myself as non-binary, which is perhaps still true (I’m only going to sit down with the question now). But I accepted the fact that I’m a woman, and yes to me it’s complicated, but it’s complicated to be any kind of woman. I am very proud to be a trans woman and to get to know and be able to say that. It was not an easy journey. ”

She then talked about parenting, news that she did not want to share in the past to protect her family’s private life. “I’m now saying for a specific reason that I’m a mother,” she said. ‘Because one problem with being trans is that we have so few visions of what it can be like to have an adult life, grow up and be happy and not die young. When our baby was born, I had about 0 examples I saw of women raising children. So here’s one for everyone who wants to see one: I’m a trans woman and a mother. It is possible. I never dreamed that it is possible to be happy and self-fulfilling, nor to be a parent. But it is and I do it. Because transmense deserves to pursue the lives we want on our terms. ”

Furman closed the post by noting that there will be new music coming soon that will follow on her 2019 album Twelve naked. Last year she did ‘Every Feeling’ for the Sex education soundtrack.
