‘Extremely dangerous’ tornado tears through Georgia

An ‘extremely dangerous’ tornado tore through several homes in Damascus, Georgia, on Monday.

According to a radar-confirmed tornado and debris signature from the Tallahassee, Florida office of the National Weather Service, the tornado struck just northeast of Damascus around 4:45 p.m. Monday.

In a storm report transmitted by an emergency manager to the National Weather Service, it was noted that there was at least one injury as well as ‘significant’ damage to a double-span mobile home and damage to a single dwelling.

The agency tweeted several photos of the damage from first-hand witnesses.

In an update at 6:30 p.m., NWS Tallahassee said conditions in the area are slowly improving, but that there is still a possibility of a tornado or severe storm for certain areas. A tornado watch is in operation for those areas until Monday night at 10 p.m.

“However, once the main line is over, the biggest threat to storms is over,” the agency added.
