Extra points: Hogan, Buccaneers, Steelers

Veteran NFL Recipient Chris Hogan get tweeted over by Adam Schefter of ESPN.com, but not because he just signed with a new team. In a twist of news we do not see coming, Hogan submitted for the Premier Lacrosse League draft in March. Hogan mostly played lacrosse at the university, as you probably know if you watched a broadcast of a game in which he played during his heyday with the Patriots. Hogan was an incredible story because he only played college football in Monmouth one season after moving from Penn State where he played lacrosse.

After a few years of training, he joined the Bills and became a household name during his run-up to 2016-18 New England. In those three years he was regular Tom Brady‘s biggest deep threat, and he was a big part of two Super Bowl winning teams. He signed with the Panthers in 2019, but injuries limited him to eight catches in seven games. He was with the Jets for the first five games of their disastrous 2020 season, catching 14 balls for 118 yards before ending up on an injured reserve and being cut later. Now he is trying to return to his first sport at the age of 33. It is unclear whether he will actually be drafted or not, but we all here at PFR wish him the best.

Here’s more from the football universe:

  • We have already heard the 68-year-old Bruce Arians will not ride the bike after sunset Buccaneers’ Super Bowl wins, so why would his 82-year-old offensive consultant? Tom Moore? Moore apparently has no plans to stop it anytime soon, as he told Guy Limbeck of the Rochester Post Bulletin that “I want to coach until I can not physically or mentally or when I die. He added “because there is absolutely nothing at work that turns me off. So I want to coach as long as possible, I want to coach as long as someone employs me and that I can do the job I have to do. ” Moore never made it to the head coach, but had several times as an OC in the NFL, recently coordinating the 1998-2008 Colts offense. He was Arians’ assistant head coach at the Cardinals from 2013-’17.
  • The Steelers recently retired two players, a longtime center Maurkice Pouncey a sink Vance McDonald. Although both walked away from the game without Pittsburgh cutting it, the Steelers still get a financial blow. These two exits will result in Pittsburgh’s Mark Kaboly of The Athletic dying $ 9 million tweets. The Steelers are not in the best situation, which helps explain why Ben Roethlisberger going to have to restructure his contract if he wants to return for another season.
