Firefighters who responded to reports of an explosion just after midnight were met by five employees who evacuated the building, which was transported to hospitals in a stable condition, the city of Columbus’ public information officer said Thursday.
Two people trapped in the building were removed and transported in critical condition to Ohio State University Hospital, Diehm said.
Authorities looking for staff at the plant determined that one person was missing and after a thorough investigation into the building, “the person was still located.”
The cause of the explosion and fire, which brought more than 100 firefighters to the scene, is being investigated.
Diehm added that local businesses in the area were closed for the evening and that no evacuation of homes was necessary.
