Executive changes announced at Nike after the reseller flap

Sarah Mensah received a plum promotion at Nike on Tuesday that filled a vacancy created by a controversy over sneaker shoes.

Nike has named Mensah as its new vice president and general manager for North America. Mensah was a driver with the Portland Trail Blazers before joining Nike in 2013. He replaces Ann Hebert, who abruptly resigned last week.

Hebert’s departure comes days after Bloomberg Businessweek reported on her 19-year-old son and his budding sneaker selling business.

Resellers use technology to buy the most desired sneaker models the moment they hit the market, and then sometimes sell them for big profits. Nike initially said Hebert had done nothing contrary to company policy and gave no explanation when she chose to resign shortly afterwards.

Mensah was one of three senior executive changes announced by Nike on Tuesday.

Amy Montagne will replace Mensah as vice president and general manager for the Pacific and Latin America. Montagne joined Nike in 2005 and was named vice president in 2009.

Aaron Cain, a 17-year veteran of the company, has been named vice president and general manager of Nike’s men’s category.

These were the most senior executive changes Nike CEO John Donahoe has made since February 2020, when he appointed his initial team of top executives. Donahoe, a longtime member of Nike’s board, was named its new top manager in October 2019.
