Thursday update: The Target PS5 stock was scheduled this morning, Thursday, March 11, according to internal communications from several employees, and TechRadar can confirm that stores are full of PS5 disc stock in stock.
“We have 40 of PS5 left,” a Target employee who wished to remain anonymous told TechRadar Wednesday night, hours before the scheduled console dropped. He stressed that the stores would vary, and he remarked, “But we only have two PS5 discs and two Xbox Series X on hand.”
This is a backup from our earlier report, which started on Sunday, which outlined the fact that Target stores have put together PS5 and Xbox consoles to launch somewhere this week. The new information – which is critical to finding these hard-to-buy consoles that sell out in minutes – was first unearthed by YouTuber Jake Randall, who specializes in PS5 and Xbox Series X videos and live streams. So far, he has been iron-clad with inside information from the best retailers in the US.
When will the Target PS5 be reloaded?
When will Target PS5 be reloaded? We know the scheduled date, but Target’s reload time is never part of the communication. In fact, someone at the online store on Tuesday morning fixed one of the ‘Ship it’ buttons and misled everyone into thinking the console was in stock – nobody actually bought it two days ago.
Two weeks ago – a Thursday morning like today – the Target PS5 stock took place again in the morning at exactly 07:47 EST. And it’s the same in all US regions, so the time was 06:47 CST / 5:47 AM MST / 4:47 PST. However, that does not mean it will be the same time on Thursday. It could be sooner or later. There is also a chance that Target will reschedule it if stores have not reached the inventory targets. It’s rare.
Important to know: Sometimes one console goes ahead of the other, as Target delays the rollout by 15 to 30 minutes.

TechRadar has confirmed that Target employees are preparing for a PS5 stock for this week. We know that Xbox Series X inventory is also prepared for the same online ordering process, employees tell us, although the inventory for the console and PS5 Digital Edition is lower than PS5 Disc in some stores.
This is not the time that Target employees demystified the PS5 stock date and stock situation for us. We received an update from several stores, both from the workers and from the eagle eyes.
“We have about 8 Xbox consoles and 22 PS5 consoles,” we told Sunday in a direct message on Twitter by another Target employee who wished to remain anonymous. Again, in three Target stores, employees told us that there are far more PS5 disc releases – and very little to zero PS5 digital editions for the looming Target reload.
Tips to get the Target PS5 stock back
Criticism: The Target employees stressed that we do not show up at stores to order any console. These are only online orders with a pick-up option in the store. In essence, Target does not want many people to show up to walk around in the aisles.
Pro tip: Target only makes orders online, but makes it possible to pick up in the store. This means that some stores, especially in large cities, will run out faster. Try to adjust your pick-up location when your nearest store is up.
New information: We also learned that not all stores will carry next-generation consoles. Some types have not received new deliveries since the launch, employees told us. It may not be willing to deal with the frenzy of customers flocking to Target stores for their in-store and ongoing delivery orders.
Target uses its local stores for the purchase of the next generation console, and it is not shipped directly from local warehouses to consumers, as we see at just about every other retailer in the US. This means that it is more difficult for scalpers to buy stock nationwide.
We initially heard that the PS5 stock would take place this week from Monday from our Target warehouse sources, but as late as Thursday from others. This has left open the possibility that it could be later in the week, and that’s exactly what we’re seeing. It’s the job of Target’s head office to call the store managers.
Because the many Target employees who spoke to us, and the customers who sent us a flurry of kiosk photos, are from different parts of the US, it’s destined to be a larger nationwide inventory if that happens.
We saw something similar exactly two weeks ago when both the PS5 and Xbox Series X were sold online for download in the store. The consoles only lasted a few minutes before Target ran out of stock. Certain regions in the US lasted longer.
The good news is that it was not that difficult to get hold of any console compared to what people went through during the Walmart and Best Buy inventory later last week. The Target website and the ordering process of PS5 and Xbox Series X require some effort to add the consoles in the cart, but it’s pretty easy to complete the purchase.
Not every store will have this stock. TechRadar visited the Herald Square store in Manhattan, and employees there said they do not wear the PlayStation 5 regularly. Instead, the larger Harlem location is suggested for the next PS5 stock. It can therefore be available per store.
Based on our reporting, the call from Target stores may not provide an answer regarding console inventory. Their headphone line includes an automated messaging machine that insists they do not display PS5 and Xbox stock information. It tells you something about the amount of calls they receive.
TechRadar also has several photos of boxes in the Target back room showing Xbox Series X and PS5 inventory. We initially withheld the photos until we could make sure there were no signs that could be traced back to our sources.
The Target PS5 and Xbox restock will not be alone
On Tuesday morning we saw limited stock of PS5 and Xbox Series X from Costco, a big push for GameStop console bundles on Tuesday afternoon and a fairly readily available bundle from ANTonline on Wednesday. Thousands of people were eventually able to get the console through our alerts.
However, we can not finish after today. Best Buy is currently assembling more PS5 and Xbox stock, according to the photos we get from its warehouses on Monday. Once again, we got images and processed UPC codes and signs on walls that can be traced back to our sources.
Although Target is scheduled for Thursday, we do not yet have an official date for Best Buy. Instead, we know the pattern of the store: it’s 3-for-3 for the launch of the next generation console on Friday. Does it give us a fourth – full month – help? This is what we need to look forward to again on Friday afternoon, the usual time for Best Buy.
The target PS5 stock appeared in newsstands
Here’s another story that consoles are coming: Target customers nationwide found that the PS5 stock appeared in newsstands on Sunday night before the expected sale. Twitch streamer MyGuyMcFly took a photo and sent it to TechRadar, shown below, which features 18 PS5 consoles in a local Target, Minnesota, indicating that the store will have at least one had stock.
Even more PS5 consoles are being stored at a Target in Austin, Texas, with customer Esteban contacting us on Twitter to share a photo in an instant message.
“I went to my local Target a few minutes ago and they have a few in stock,” he said Sunday night. The screen shows 25+ PS5 consoles at hand and 41 at the back. No one has been sold yet. He remarked: “For PS5 Digital Edition, they only have 6, so I’m probably aiming for the disc version.”

It’s not always the fastest doing the trick (though it helps a lot to be on time for a PS5 stock). It’s about most attempts to put the next generation console in your cart. By adding your payment information and delivery address to your account ahead of time, you can check the button next to the SPAM basket and sooner. People were happy with the purchase of Apple Pay.

PS5 is almost impossible to find in stock for more than a few minutes every time stores recharge the Sony console. We find that the same can be said about the Xbox Series X. Both Sony and Microsoft launched their respective consoles in November 2020 and could not find enough manufacturer to meet the demand.
Stores like Target, Walmart and Best Buy regularly add stock to their stores and the pressure of people coming to their sites regularly falls on the pages. Four months after the initial launch, it is still a burden to buy a next-generation console, even after customers have been trying their luck for months.
